Ryan Theaker was secretly being recorded as he subjected his victim to an 82-minute sex attack
Published2 hours ago
A woman told a police officer to "get off me" more than 300 times as he subjected her to an 82-minute violent rape in a Liverpool hotel room.
Former Merseyside Police constable Ryan Theaker, 30, was secretly recorded by the victim after a night out in 2023.
The woman, who cannot be named to protect her anonymity, read an emotional statement at Liverpool Crown Court and faced the dock as she told Theaker "monsters never win".
He was designated a "dangerous" offender by a judge and jailed for 11 years with an extended five-year licence period.
Warning: This story contains distressing details of sexual violence.
Theaker, from Park Lane in Netherton, had been convicted of rape, sexual assault and assault by penetration after a trial last month.
Gareth Roberts, prosecuting, said the audio recordings captured Theaker demanding the woman let him take naked pictures of her, despite her saying she did not want him to.
He also assaulted her with sex toys he had brought to the hotel, the court heard.
'Monsters never win'
The recordings, described as "harrowing" by sentencing judge Brian Cummings KC, captured her "crying throughout" as Theaker went on to rape her.
Theaker, who was off duty at the time, was heard to tell her: "It'll stop when I say."
Roberts summarised the attack as a "lengthy and prolonged period of sexual degradation".
The offences were reported about a year later, after the victim confided in family and friends following a "serious" suicide attempt.
The woman was invited to read her victim personal statement aloud and wiped away tears as she said: "I always thought when I was younger that monsters were big horrible nasty creatures who weren't even real.
"I remember reading a post that said, 'even Scooby doo taught us the real monsters were always the people'.
"That is exactly what he is. A monster. The monster never wins."
She also said she could not understand how he could have arrested people after "doing what he did to me" and "still been proud to wear that uniform".
"He didn't deserve to be in the police," she added.
Theaker was told he was a dangerous offender at Liverpool Crown Court
Theaker did not appear to react as she read her statement and the woman was embraced and supported by her family as she returned to the public gallery.
Jenny Tallentire, defending, said since the trial Theaker had accepted he was guilty of the sexual offences and was "ashamed" of his behaviour.
She said he had been an "excellent" police officer who had been commended and nominated for a bravery award during his career.
Outlining Theaker's crimes as he passed sentence, Judge Cummings said: "You repeatedly told her get in the [expletive] bath which she refused to do, pushed her on the bed, removed her clothing and took photographs of her despite her repeatedly telling you she didn't want you to."
He said he forced her to wear sexual restraints and assaulted her.
Just as she thought the ordeal was over, the judge said Theaker grabbed her by the hair and raped her.
'Shocked and disgusted'
Judge Cummings said he took into account Theaker's public service and acknowledged that his status as a police officer would put him at increased risk in custody.
However, he said: "I am quite sure that your behaviour towards the victim across the offences made at the very least a substantial contribution to her decision to try and kill herself."
After the offences were reported in August 2024, Theaker was suspended and subjected to misconduct proceedings.
He resigned the day before a hearing in August 2025, which concluded he would have been sacked had he remained on the force.
After the sentencing Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Karen Jaundrill said: "The behaviour for which Theaker has been convicted and sentenced has no place in society, and certainly not within policing.
"I want to be clear that his contemptible behaviour is in no way representative of the attitude or behaviour of officers and staff at Merseyside Police.
"Theaker's former colleagues, and the force, have all been left shocked and disgusted by his actions and the long-term impact they have had on his victim."
